Where Is Fashion Heading?

Reading Time: 2 minutes

A lack of vision, provocations, and big logos

To understand where fashion is heading, we should ask if the industry can change and evolve from its current state of confusion.

Some say fashion is back. Perhaps, those who say that refer to the possibility of showing new collections physically. Or, to the opportunity of wearing more elaborate outfits for special occasions and parties, which eventually restarted after covid.

Between provocations and big logos

But, among provocations and logoed items, finding new concepts is very difficult. Indeed, the range spans from Balenciaga’s garbage bag to logos exposed everywhere. In other words, mass products–that’s all. And if you want valuable garments because you don’t recognise yourself in that imagery, you have to dig a lot to find rarities.

Since fashion is an industry like any other, it tends to favour big companies, meaning those who can invest money are the ones who trend.

where is fashion heading

Keeping an eye on international designers searching for niche garments, we do not see any real change. Brands struggle to adapt to the new post-pandemic reality, yet no new proposals are being released. Neither do they consider that if reality has changed, what they have done so far will not work anymore?

Fashion industry vs change

Nevertheless, the industry players insist on the old patterns. So, they all follow the same old rules, distribution scheme and dates–and the same production models. Also, the same discount policies! In short, whatever caused the fashion system’s implosion long before the pandemic.

A lack of vision is palpable, paired with the need to fit into a system even if that system doesn’t work. As a result, nothing new can emerge—neither in design, manufacturing nor sales strategies.

A lot of talks about sustainability, which you can translate into greenwashing. In the end, change stops at the conversations. Conversations about change, of course!

Change means dismantling, restarting, and experimenting. It takes courage and a lot of creativity. Most importantly, there’s no guarantee of success. So, where fashion is heading?

Why Clothes, In the Words Of Virginia Woolf

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Can we drive change through fashion?

Some people may wonder why clothes, preciseley, why clothes matter, and whether they can be a tool for promoting change. We can find a brilliant response in Virginia Woolf’s words. Here is a quote from Orlando:

“Vain trifles as they seem, clothes have, they say, more important offices than to merely keep us warm. They change our view of the world and the world’s view of us.”

Virginia Woolf

Some authors are like anchors, offering us a steady place to hold onto in the midst of life’s turbulence. Their words provide deeply beautiful insights that resonate with us on a personal level. Through their significant perspectives, they help us not only better understand the world around us, but also ourselves—our values, our emotions, and our place in the broader tapestry of life. These authors offer guidance, wisdom, and comfort, serving as timeless companions on our journey of self-discovery.

More about clothes

Clothes change people’s perceptions of us. Indeed, they are part of our non-verbal language. So through them, we express our personality and our worldview. At the same time, clothes change our view of the world–the influence is mutual. So, by making specific choices, we can have an impact. And not only on our style and image, meaning on what people can see of us at first glance. But also regarding our consciousness, so on a more profound level affirming who we are and what kind of world we want.

In that sense, we can do a lot to change. In fact, we aren’t passive consumers but active thinkers, and by making better choices, we change the world.

So, do you wonder why clothes? And if clothes can be a tool of change? We believe they can, because we don’t just dress to enhance our image and boost self-confidence. But by making thoughtful choices about the garments we choose to wear, we show that we care for people and the planet. Therefore, our thoughts, words and style align with our actions.

In other words, through style we contribute to change for the better.

The Conscious People Movement

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Fashion and beyond #formodernhumans

The conscious people movement, under the hashtag #formodernhumans brings together and inspires those who want to make a change. It starts with fashion, but goes beyond that—because style reflects who we are, and so does our lifestyle.

It’s about making a choice: one way or the other. Our thoughtless and short-sighted actions provoked climate change, and now extreme weather is a serious threat. Therefore, the idea that everything is fine and we can take whatever the industries try to sell is no longer valid- it’s dead. Fashion, food, technology, lifestyle, everything needs to be reevaluated.

In fact, outdated patterns, traditional economic models, and old ways of thinking and behaving are no longer sustainable. The systems that once served us are now contributing to the strain on our planet, and if we continue to follow these established paths, we risk further harm. It’s clear that change is necessary, and it must start with rethinking how we approach everything—from our daily choices to the global systems we depend on.

The choice: niche vs mass market

And so, the choice we face is clear: niche or mass market. Quality or quantity. Unique fashion and good design vs fast fashion. Timeless and reusable vs disposable. Conscious consumption vs overconsumption. Circularity vs waste. Also, ethical business vs exploitation and modern-day slavery. In other words, it’s Doughnut Economics—the groundbreaking work by economist Kate Raworth (a must-read!)—versus the outdated model of capitalism and the false promise of infinite growth.

The conscious people movement #formodernhumans

The Conscious People Movement #ForModernHumans fosters inspiration and drives meaningful change, championing niche over mass market. Conscious individuals make a bold and radical choice: less but better—that’s the starting point.

We care deeply about this cause, and we’ve made our choice.
Now it’s your turn.

It’s one way or the other!

The World You Want

Reading Time: 2 minutes

How will you choose it?

The world you want is the one you have already chosen.

Do you know how? Through your purchases. Through the things you buy: food, clothes, objects and furniture… It’s about how much you consume and the way you consume it.

This is how you vote: you do it with your wallet, shaping the world around you with every purchase. And you do it without even thinking, as it’s become the conditioned reflex of unaware humans, driven by convenience, marketing, and habits we’ve never questioned.

Indeed, you have already chosen the world you want. And your style shows it. In fact, fashion is just one piece of the big puzzle.

Your favourite world surrounds us: overconsumption, huge quantity over quality, and human rights violated. It’s a world where convenience often comes at the expense of ethics, and where the pursuit of more has overshadowed the value of less, leaving a trail of exploitation and environmental harm.

So enjoy it! It’s here. Enjoy your world!
Are you happy with it?

Unless you see things from a different viewpoint. Which is a possibility, indeed.
This means that you are generous enough to care about the impact of your actions. And to see that this thoughtless and out of control lifestyle is taking us to self-destruction.

Because we–humans–are responsible for climate change.
The recent heatwave and droughts are tangible responses to our reckless actions.

Are you sure you want to vote for this world?
Are you still ok with it?

Or do you want to change?

Bukowski Capturing The Essence Of Style

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Precise, powerful words that define true style

Bukowski on capturing the essence of style. The essence of style is difficult to define and even harder to frame it in words, yet Bukowski brilliantly found the perfect phrases capture it. In a world often dominated by fleeting trends and superficial appearances, Bukowski’s words offer a rare glimpse into what true style really means.

Thanks to Mary Portas, we have discovered the following piece by Charles Bukowski, which, she says, sums up her feelings on style. We found it absolutely fantastic, so we decided to share it here—Bukowski’s sharp words truly hit the mark. He masterfully captures its essence, not just through the actions of individuals, but through the way they live, express themselves, and even embrace the rawness of life itself. His unique perspective reminds us that style is more than just aesthetics—it’s a reflection of authenticity and personal expression.

Bukowski on style

“Style is the answer to everything,
A fresh way to approach a dull or dangerous day,
To do a dull thing with style is preferable to doing a dangerous thing without it.
To do a dangerous thing with style, is what I call art.

Bullfighting can be an art.
Boxing can be an art.
Loving can be an art.
Opening a can of sardines can be an art.

Not many have style
Not many can keep style
I have seen dogs with more style than men,
Although not many dogs have style.
Cats have it with abundance.

When Hemingway put his brains to the wall with a shotgun, that was style.
For sometimes people give you style.
Joan of Arc had style.
John the Baptist,
Jesus,
Socrates,
Caesar,
García Lorca.

I have met men in jail with style.
I have met more men in jail with style than men out of jail.
Style is a difference, a way of doing, a way of being done.
Six herons standing quietly in a pool of water, or you, walking
out of the bathroom without seeing me.”

The poem emphasises that style is a unique approach to life, turning ordinary or dangerous actions into something meaningful and artistic. Bukowski suggests that style is not common, but it can be found in unexpected places, whether in animals, historical figures, or even in the way a person carries themselves. It’s about how you do things, the essence of being distinct and authentic. From the mundane to the profound, style makes a difference, and it’s often more present in those who are unconventional or marginalized.

Although capturing the essence of style in words is no easy feat, Bukowski does so brilliantly, encapsulating it in a way that resonates deeply. We absolutely adore this piece! Not only has he gifted us with a true work of art, but it also serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of words in a world overwhelmed by superficial images and fleeting trends.
