A Wardrobe for Life

Unlocking the Secret to Timeless Style

From Paris Fashion Week, one theme resonated with us: the notion of a wardrobe for life. Spearheaded by none other than the iconic Miuccia Prada with her Miu Miu collection, this concept challenges the ephemeral nature of fashion. Indeed, it urges us to rethink our approach to style and consumption.

Although Miuccia showed how to build a timeless wardrobe, it remains unclear how her sustainable goals align with her brand’s relentless pursuit of growth.

By the way, imagine a closet filled not with disposable garments but with cherished treasures that evolve alongside you, adapting to every twist and turn of your personal narrative.

The power of a wardrobe for life

At its core, a wardrobe for life is a testament to quality, longevity, and sustainability. So, it champions pieces that transcend fleeting trends, becoming steadfast companions on the journey of life.

In a world obsessed with rapid turnover and instant gratification, the idea of a wardrobe for life represents a meaningful choice. It celebrates the enduring allure of classics, those timeless pieces that effortlessly transition from season to season, year to year. Building blocks of a wardrobe that stand the test of time.

But it’s not just about aesthetics; it’s about emotional resonance. Every garment in a wardrobe for life carries with it a story, a memory, a connection. Indeed, these pieces become woven into the fabric of your life, imbued with a significance that transcends mere fashion.

The influence of brand power

It’s undeniable that the endorsement of a renowned fashion house like Miu Miu carries significant weight in shaping public perception. When Miuccia Prada herself champions the concept of a wardrobe for life, real or not, it becomes instantly elevated to the realm of high fashion, capturing the attention of the masses.

Specifically, she focused on ageless and genderless offerings, making us wonder: will people finally understand it? Timeless, ageless and genderless are themes we have promoted for a long time. Inspired by designers like Issey Miyake, Martin Margiela or Marc Le Bihan. As well as newer brands like Meagratia, GoodNeighbors Shirts or Miaoran. Although popular, these concepts are not truly understood.

Of course, it’s easier for a powerhouse brand to make a statement. The fashion industry’s influence dynamics and perception’s power make the difference.

However, despite these obstacles, boutique owners who promote niche fashion possess a distinct advantage: authenticity. Unlike mass-produced fashion churned out by corporate behemoths, boutique offerings are often imbued with a sense of craftsmanship, individuality, and personal connection.

Empowering individual style with a wardrobe for life

At suite123, as a boutique, we’ve witnessed firsthand the transformative power of a wardrobe for life. It’s not just about selling clothes; it’s about fostering a community of like-minded individuals who share a passion for conscious consumption and timeless style.

Together, we’re rewriting the narrative of fashion. We’re reclaiming our individuality, embracing our uniqueness, and celebrating the beauty of diversity. In fact, we’re paving the way for a more inclusive, sustainable, and fulfilling future.

For those who doubt the importance of our boutique’s mission in a world where big brands and flashy trends dominate, we want to make it clear: our message may be understated, but its impact is significant.

We offer a wardrobe for life that transcends fashion and embraces the essence of who we are, where we’ve been, and where we’re going.

Join us on this journey!

The end of trend-based items

From trend-driven to timeless: how contemporary fashion has evolved

Although fashion brands stubbornly introduce transient concepts to maximise their turnover, the end of trend-based items seems quite clear. Lately, the idea of seasonal trends has lost meaning. That is in favour of a clean and timeless style that prefers classics with a modern twist, clothes you’ll never get tired of.

Trend-based fashion, status quo and the pandemic

Trendy-driven items are a trail of the status quo. Fashion with a close expiry date, without distinction between luxury and fast fashion.
But since the pandemic, our lifestyles have changed, and so have the clothes we want to wear. And the climate crisis, too, has an impact on shifting consumer behaviour and our style.

Cleaning off wardrobes of the pieces we won’t wear anymore is the first step. Which, by the way, doesn’t absolutely mean discarding them! In fact, as a consequence of this evolved behaviour, we don’t throw away clothing. We do not throw away anything. We donate or re-sell, depending on the item.

The motive for this cleaning is that we realised we don’t need more garments. Less but better is what we need. And also, we need clothes that make us feel good.

The end of trend-drive fashion & new style:
timeless, seasonless, comfortable

The new style is about assembling a capsule wardrobe of beautifully designed garments. Special pieces that give a sense of elegance but make you feel comfortable at the same time. Even important clothes that we love to mix nonchalantly.

Therefore, the focus is on the cut and fabrics that provide an elevated touch. Relaxed tailoring assembled in modern separates is the heart of this evolved style. Blazers, trousers and knits do not constrain the body but allow movement.
Also, we want to feel the comfort on our skin. So, wearing our favourite clothes becomes a pleasant experience.

On the same line, we see the end of trend-based items. Indeed, we filter fashion proposals in search of good design – seasonless and timeless clothing. An evolved and subtle elegance. A clean style for a contemporary understatement that impresses for its beauty but refuses any showiness.

The New Yooryuu Top

Today we introduce The New Yooryuu Top – by Plantation1982.

Among the Yooryuu series of timeless carry-over pieces designed by Plantation, a new model was launched this season.
Yangyanagi is a woven fabric in which threads are twisted to create a grainy striped surface. Indeed, the unevenness of the texture prevents the material from adhering to the skin and has excellent breathability, sweat absorption, and quick-drying properties. Those characteristics make this garment perfect for the summer season.

Discover The New Yooryuu Top

About the design
Boxy sleeveless top with an asymmetric cut volcano neck that you can also fold up, so you can wear it in two different ways.

About the material
100% organic Japanese cotton. Using the grain in a horizontal striped shape instead of vertical, and giving the fabric an appropriate tension, creates a rhythmic movement like a spring, typical of the Yooryuu cotton series. Which is comfortable and fun to wear.

Styling tips
Even though these organic cotton pieces are perfect for the hot weather, in fact, when you sweat, they do not stick to your skin, you can wear them throughout the year. Indeed they work well for your layered style as basics under wool garments.

The Asymmetric Fluo Cotton Sweater

The light green version

The item we introduce today is The Asymmetric Fluo Cotton Sweater by ZUCCa.

The line is stylish, comfortable and easy to wear. Also, the concept of asymmetric design is something we really like because it’s modern and unusual, and it looks great when you wear it.
We already showed you the purple version a couple of weeks ago, and we are happy you enjoyed it! Since this pull is a new classic, we decided to select another colour too, which is a stronger version.

By the way, the quantities we order are limited, and this is intentional. In fact, the idea is to create unique outfits and not replicate clones you see everywhere.

Discover The Asymmetric Fluo Sweater

About the design
The sweater features a round neck and asymmetric hemline. Also, a robust seam along the front and side highlights the mix of the two different thicknesses of the same material. The seam details the shoulders too.
Ribbed neckline, cuffs and hem. The silhouette is slightly oversized and unisex.

Accessible all ages

Age and fashion: an erroneous belief

The representation of different ages in fashion eventually had its recognition. You don’t have to hide anymore, in case you ever thought about doing so. Or, perhaps you were waiting for permission to wear specific clothing.

But did we need permission? And, dear brands, do you believe young people could afford expensive clothes?

Take a look at this picture (zoom the bandana print)
We picked this dress from the Spring/ Summer 2015 MM6 – Maison Martin Margiela collection. Not new if we consider the date of its release. But still relevant in terms of the idea the brand promoted, which was fashion-forward.

Age and fashion
MM6 – Maison Martin Margiela Spring/ Summer 2015

Fashion accessible to all ages

The transversal cut of the collection was clear. We ordered it because we loved the concept and felt aligned with it. Also, we personally have that dress in our closet and still wear it. You may be familiar with the notion of timeless fashion, such a discovery. Yes, we’ve always believed that good design was forever.

Around 2022 the concept of fashion without borders such as age, gender, body shape started to be recognised and amplified by fashion brands. But in 2015, it was about being a trailblazer, innovative and creative, by proposing a countercultural message. Now, from pret-a-porter to haute couture, those words and images have flooded fashion communication. So it sounds like something you have to say just to conform.

Indeed, it is interesting to analyse how many labels we place on the boxes we think we belong to. Age – gender – body shape – race, etc. The need to fit in is evident, to belong to a specific category.

When brands highlight labels so often that they all send the same message, authenticity is lost. Eventually it is clear that these labels are a just marketing trend.

Rules are different. Back then, we had designers, and fashion was meaningful. Now marketers pull the strings. And, in a spasmodic search for identity, we need slogans to frame the emptiness.
