Tom Ford & the change

The fashion business in a post-pandemic world

Even if it is not easy to plan the best strategy, the need to change is in the air. Strong and palpable. Brands pretend to care but avoid the matter. But since the pandemic hit, nothing has changed. Only a few involved in the discussion are concerned for real.

Now, the news is that Tom Ford will step down as chairman of the CDFA on May 31st.

We quote him:

“When I began my role as chairman in June of 2019, my goal was to help the American fashion industry become more globally recognised for its talent and importance. I could not have imagined the extraordinary circumstances that both the industry and the world would have to navigate — that a pandemic would shut the world down and change the course of our lives and of our businesses forever.”

“The pandemic challenged all of us to think about our businesses in new ways—from the design process and production, to how we reach and speak to our customers.”

Tom Ford

The need to change

Since the beginning of our blog, we have talked profusely about change and shifting behaviours in our lifestyle. Therefore, finding new business models. And we highlighted how the pandemic was the catalyst which opened our eyes and led us to a new perspective. So, we find it interesting to listen to Tom Ford and recall his evolution. From the moment he revived Gucci with his minimal, bold, and ultra sexy style saving the brand from bankruptcy in the 90s. To how he revamped Yves Saint Laurent and the launch of his namesake brand in 2005.

Many years have passed, and now things are different, so what was right in the 90s does not work anymore.

The need to change is evident. And finding new ways to pursue the fashion business is something we cannot ignore anymore.

The Denim Shirt Dress

Zero-waste design

Today we introduce The Denim Shirt Dress – by Plantation.

A thoughtful design aiming to reduce production waste is a fundamental step for a conscious fashion mindset. Indeed, this garment is modern and stylish.

The Denim Shirt Dress

by Plantation1982

About the design

It is a zero-waste pattern with a unique design realised by using the fabric cutout of the curved sleeves along the hemline.
Also, the hemline at the back is square, and the front is round, giving a cool asymmetric silhouette.
Inside the sleeves, you’ll find a flap with a buttonhole which holds the sleeves when you roll them up. Two pleats along the back provide amplitude to the armpit and shoulders, making the movement comfortable.
Front button closure plus a self-tie belt. One side slit pocket. Under-knee length, two side slits.

It is a dress suitable for many occasions: to wear it as a dress, adjust the waist belt tightly, or wear it as light outerwear by opening the front buttons.

About the material

100% cotton – lightweight indigo denim. Fresh and comfortable.
The zero-waste pattern cuts the fabric in order to avoid production waste. Instead of the conventional zero-waste technique, consisting of linear and complicated parts, Plantation designers want to create a zero-waste pattern for everyday wear. Indeed, the curved design provides extra comfort.

About the colour

This item is indigo dyed. Indigo dyeing has a natural texture, and you can enjoy the unique colour change as the colour fades when you wash it. Since the colour will fade, please avoid wearing it with white items prone to colour transfer.
It is a washed product in order to give a unique texture.

Laundry

Hand washable, easy-care.
You can wash it by hand at home. Please, be careful not to wash it with other items.

One year!

Book your free call to get a wardrobe remix!

We are excited to share with you that today, the suite123 blog turns 1! One year!

Considering that in March 2022, suite123 boutique entered its 16th year of activity in the fashion field, and we almost forgot about it, perhaps we are not big on celebrating anniversaries.

However, there’s one thing we want to acknowledge: our connections. Yes, connections we developed during the time, relationships based on trust.

Lately, we have decided to shift the boutique activity to the online world. Which at first may seem a too cold means to encourage human relations. But in our case, it’s not. Because we believe in human relations, they are at the heart of what we do, and so is our private shopping service. Physical or digital, our essence doesn’t change.

Different choices

Challenging the status quo

Making different choices, or doing the opposite of what others do, seems to be a valuable strategy. Indeed, standing apart is better than offering a mere homologation to consumerism and blind convenience. Which is the mass culture.

People have a choice. It may seem simple, but it is a fact. And our choices define the world we live in. What happens around us doesn’t occur by chance but is intentional. No supernatural force intervenes, only our own will. Therefore, the reality that surrounds us is the product of our actions, of our lifestyle.

Once you understand that, the change comes as a result, even if you have to go first. But when you move in a different direction, touch on specific topics, and use a certain language, you narrow down the people who would interact with you. In fact, you challenge the status quo while everyone follows it.

The market is vast, and the grand bazaar is always open. But, despite the vastness, the proposals are homologated, and lowering the bar is still the norm. In fact, even in a devastating moment, which was supposed to bring in a shift in behaviour, there is no understanding of the impact of our lifestyle choices.

Different choices #formodernhumans

Over two decades in the fashion field, we have gained more knowledge and a deeper level of consciousness. And we evolved, taking a different path.
Change comes from the inside, so we have started with ourselves and our individual choices. But it’s visible through what we select and how. The quality and limited quantity we pick out.

You will not find the fashion supermarket with us but a capsule selection of meaningful garments. There is a reason for every piece we choose. That is how we make a difference.

We make our choices consistent with our values, aware that changing the way we work can be incomprehensible to many. But understandable for those who see the possibilities. For modern humans, away from mass culture.

And we hope you will be with us.

The Rubber Band Eco Bag

Minimal design #formodernhumans

Today we introduce The Rubber Band Eco Bag – by ZUCCa.

It is a pocketable eco bag with a minimal and functional design that will add a modern touch to your style. Although part of the Spring-Summer collection, it is a seasonless accessory. And you can carry it with you as your main handbag, when you want something lightweight, or as an extra bag.

About the design
There is a colour block rubber band with a logo in the centre, and if you fold it around the rubber and turn it over, it will become a compact pocketable size. When folded up, thanks to a carabiner hidden under the rubber band, you can hang it on other bags and carry it around. So you’ll have it always on hand when you need it.

About the material
This shopping bag is made from a recycled polyester fabric made from recycled PET bottles.

Perhaps by recycling, we will not save the world, but it is a good choice since we are surrounded by plastic. And so, giving new life and new forms to PET is just one of the possibilities we should implement to reduce our impact on the environment.

About the colour
We picked out three different combinations. There is a chic version in grey with a fluo light green rubber band. But there are also vivid colours such as yellow with a white rubber band and purple with a turquoise rubber band.

Sizes
H50 W30 D10
Big enough to carry an A4 size file.

Laundry
Hand washable, easy-care.
Wash by hand in cold water.

Eco tip: having with you an additional bag is a thoughtful strategy to avoid taking shoppers from retailers. So, you just use and reuse yours.

The Rubber Band Eco Bag is cool and practical. Also, this accessory can be a lovely gift.
